KANU O KA `AINA LEARNING `OHANA RECEIVES $25,000 GRANT
FROM FIRST HAWAIIAN BANK FOUNDATION
(Honolulu, Hawaii, June 12, 2008) - Kanu O Ka 'Aina Learning 'Ohana (KALO) has been given a grant of $25,000 by The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation, the charitable arm of First Hawaiian Bank, according to an announcement by Don Horner, First Hawaiian Bank's president and chief executive officer. The funds will be used to assist the Hawaiian charter school with the construction of “Halau Ho`olako,” an intergenerational community learning center.
The new center will be the first of several facilities designed to meet the educational and technological needs of learners of all ages, with particular emphasis on children and youth of Hawaiian ancestry.
Located in Kamuela, Hawaii, KALO administers programs for the advancement of education and culture of Hawaiian people and has been recognized statewide as a leader in Hawaiian focused education. Current programs include and early childhood education program, a charter public school, a teacher licensing program approved by the DOE, and a Charter school alliance comprised of 12 schools on three islands.
