- Set up recurring payments (such as your mortgage, car payment, rent or cable bill).
How much does Online Payment through the Internet cost for consumers?
Online Payment through the Internet is an optional service and is available for only $5.99 per month. New FHB Online customers will receive this service free for the first two months.
The monthly fee for Online Payment through Quicken or Microsoft Money is $9.95.
How and when are consumers billed for Online Payment service through the Internet?
If you are a new FHB Online customer and elect to enroll in Online Payment, you will get the first two months free. After the first two months, we will charge the $5.99 monthly service fee in advance by an automatic debit at the beginning of the month from the checking account you indicated at the time you enrolled.
Do I have to pay the monthly fee if I haven't used Online Payment at all during the month?
Yes. After the 60-day trial period, all Online Payment customers will be assessed the monthly service fee. The fee will not be waived during months of inactivity.
Which of my First Hawaiian accounts can I use to pay my bills?
You may use any First Hawaiian Bank checking account. (Does not include Money Market Checking.)
I initially enrolled in Online Banking without Online Payment but would now like to enroll in Online Payment also. How do I enroll?
Log in to FHB Online and go to the "Alerts/Messages" page. Select "Request Online Bill Payment" from the drop down menu on the subject line and send us a message asking us to activate Online Payment as part of your FHB Online service.
How do I cancel Online Payment service?
You may cancel Online Payment via email from the "Alerts/Messages" page on your FHB Online service or by sending us a message asking us to cancel your Online Payment service.
Who can I pay?
You can pay anyone with a United States address with the following exceptions: federal, state or local government agencies, tax payments, court-directed payments (such as alimony or child support) or to a security broker.
What is the Merchant Directory?
The Merchant Directory is an alphabetical list of Payees that accept electronic payments. As a convenience, this list will be available to you online to select from when adding a payee.
How are my bills paid?
Payments are sent electronically or by check depending on the merchant's arrangement with our processor. Sometimes a check may be sent even if the payee accepts electronic payments.
What is the lead time? How far in advance should I set up payments?
To help you schedule enough lead time for your payment to reach your payee, we show you the minimum required lead time for that payee on the "Make a Payment" screen and the "Payee List" screen. The first time you make a payment to a payee, the minimum required lead time will automatically be set to five Business Days. The next time you make a payment to that same payee, the minimum required lead time may be different depending on whether that payee can accept electronic payments, in which case the minimum required lead time may be two Business Days or less. A Business Day is every calendar day except for Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.
What is the difference between the "payment date" and the "send date?"
The "payment date" is your payment due date excluding any grace period. This is the date when your payment is due to arrive to your payee. The "send date" or "process date" is the date we will debit your account and process the payment to be made to your payee. We calculate the send date based on the payment date you give us and the minimum required lead time for your payee.
When does the payment get debited from my account?
The payment gets debited from your account on the "send date."
What happens if I set up a payment but do not have sufficient funds in my account on the "send date" or "process date?"
If, on the "send date" or "process date," there is an insufficient balance in your checking account (including any overdraft protection you may have linked to your checking account) to make a payment you have authorized, we will delay the payment and try again on the next Business Day. If there is still an insufficient balance to cover the full amount of the payment on the next Business Day, we will once again delay the payment and try a third time on the following Business Day. If, after 3 attempts to debit the amount of the payment, there is still an insufficient balance to make the payment, we may either refuse to pay the item, or we may make the payment and overdraw your checking account. In either event, you will be responsible for any non-sufficient funds ("NSF") or overdraft charges we may impose.
Can I schedule recurring payments?
Yes. This feature allows you the convenience of scheduling payments to be made on an ongoing basis. This feature is especially convenient for setting up payments that are for the same amount and made at regular frequencies like your mortgage (every month), water bill (every other month) or car insurance (twice a year).
You can schedule recurring payments to be made weekly, every other week, twice a month, monthly, every four weeks, every other month, quarterly, twice a year, and annually.
How do I cancel a scheduled bill payment or a recurring payment?
You can cancel any scheduled bill payment (single or the next payment of a recurring payment) by deleting the payment from the Upcoming Payments screen up until 5:00 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time on the indicated Process Date.
What happens if I change the address of a payee that I have a recurring payment scheduled for?
You must cancel and reschedule a recurring payment when you update the address for the payee. If you don't cancel and reschedule the payment, the payment will continue to go to the address that was on file for the payee at the time the recurring payment was originally set up.
Can I place a stop payment on a bill that has already been sent?
No. Once the payment has been processed, we cannot place a stop payment.
What are "upcoming payments?"
Upcoming payments are payments you have scheduled through the Online Payment service, which have not yet been processed and sent to the payee.
What are "express payments?"
Currently, when you pay bills with FHB Online, the system will only allow you to make one payment per screen, or one payment at a time. With express payments, you will be able to make up to eight payments per screen, or eight payments at a time. The express payments functionality will dramatically decrease the amount of time you spend online paying bills.
What is the cut-off time to submit a bill payment?
The cut-off time for submitting payments is 5:00 p.m. each Business Day. Payments submitted after 5:00 p.m. or on weekends or holidays will be processed as if they were submitted on the next Business Day. A Business Day is every calendar day except for Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.
What is the cut-off time to change or delete upcoming payments?
The cut-off time to change or delete an upcoming payment is 5:00 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time on the Process Date.
What is the "reference number" on the Account Details, Upcoming Payments and Payment History screens?
The reference number is a confirmation of your transaction request. It is useful to identify a transaction with this number when making inquiries on a specific bill payment or funds transfer.
What is the advantage of using Online Payment rather than automatic deduction for recurring bills?
Online Payment provides customers with the same convenience as automatic deduction from your checking account by allowing you to set up and maintain automatic recurring payments. The advantage of using Online Payment over automatic deduction is that you have more flexibility and control over how much you want to pay and when you want the payment to be made.
How many payees can I list?
An unlimited number of individuals and businesses can be set up as payees.
How far in advance can I schedule a payment?
You can schedule a payment up to one year in advance.
What is the maximum amount a payment can be?
The maximum amount of any one payment is the lesser of the current available deposit balance in your payment account (plus any available credit in an associated Yes-Check line of credit) or $99,999.99.
How many payments can I schedule in a single month?
The $5.99 Online Payment monthly service fee is a flat fee. There is no per-transaction fee for payments.
Will my overdraft protection work with this service?
Yes, up to your overdraft protection limit.
